Good news from the foster care community! According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the number of children waiting to be adopted from foster care is down 20% since 2000 and the number of children who wait three or more years to get adopted has also gone down by a third. Kim Stevens, an adoptive parent and project director for Advocates for Families First, says these improvements are due to new strategies and better monitoring from child services agencies, but urges people to remember that things are far from perfect. There are still over 100,000 children waiting to be adopted out of foster care.
