  • Transracial adoption is a broader umbrella and we need to acknowledge that although we often speak of it in terms of white parents adopting children of color, it can also be the reverse. We also need to note that it also doesn’t just mean white parents of black & biracial kids. It includes white parents of Asian and Hispanic kids as well.
  • What is wrong about taking a color blind approach to transracial adoption. Why draw attention to differences.
  • Identity formation for transracial adopted people. Most important task of adolescence and racial identity is a crucial aspect of that particularly in the US.
  • Some of the earlier research on transracial adoption focused on younger kids and their families. I was glad to see that you questioned this. Transracially adopted children need tools to maneuver through life as a member of their racial group. When they are young they are protected from this reality, but this changes as they enter adolescence.
  • What is the most important thing we can do/ensure/instill/racial identity and pride as Caucasian parents who adopted a black child?
  • Tips from blacks and adult transracial adoptees on how best to raise a transracially adopted child.
  • How to find mentors and role models of color for your children.
  • Why did the NABSW take the position against transracial adoption in 1972 and what is their current position?
