Location: Eastern Europe
Birth Year: March 2006
Marcella was born in March 2006. She has spastic cerebral palsy with monoplegia of the upper limb and spina bifida aperta (myelomeningocele), for which she has had multiple orthopedic surgeries. She is a sociable, positive girl with no significant cognitive delays. Tenacious Marcella primarily uses a wheelchair to move around on her own, although since working with therapists twice a week, she is now also able to walk with assistance, including going upstairs. She does not have control over her bladder and bowel function and requires assistance with personal hygiene and dressing. Marcella eats independently and keeps her room clean with support from an adult. Soft-spoken and calm, Marcella readily initiates conversations with peers and adults and appropriately expresses her emotions. She enjoys music and singing, painting and coloring, watching cartoons, doing puzzles, and participating in group activities. She is well-behaved, respectful and diligently completes her assignments in school where she receives extra assistance from a resource teacher. She will be entering 3rd grade in the 2016/2017 school year. Marcella lived with her biological family until 2012. When asked by our in-country representative if she wanted to be adopted into a forever family, Marcella replied with a huge smile and an emphatic ‘yes’. This cheerful, lovable girl would greatly benefit from the medical care, resources, and permanence of a family of her own.
