Location: Eastern Europe
Birth Year: February 2007
Jason was born in February 2007 in a moderately depressive condition via forceps delivery. He has been diagnosed with mild developmental delays, mild to moderate protein-energy malnutrition, and an aberrant chord in the left ventricle of the heart. Jason has good coordination and well-developed gross motor skills as evidenced by his ability to easily run, jump and climb. He has some fine motor delays but is able to grasp objects, turn pages, and properly hold a pencil to draw or write. Jason is a sociable and friendly boy who easily builds rapport with others, including unfamiliar adults. He expresses himself well verbally and works with a speech therapist to overcome some pronunciation difficulties. Jason shows appropriate concentration for simple tasks. He struggles with self-motivation and focus, and completing more complex assignments without support is difficult for him. He can be stubborn, is said to have a low frustration tolerance, and may respond with outbursts and aggression when displeased. Jason also shows kindness and affection and interacts well with children younger than him. With guidance, he maintains personal hygiene and keeps his room clean. Jason desires to be adopted and have a family of his own. When our in-country representative met with Jason, he presented as polite, conversational, and easy-going. He shared with her that he is being bullied by the older boys in his group home. She believes that in large part the delays and younger behaviors he exhibits are the result of institutionalization, neglect, and overall lack of stimulation. Jason needs a forever family who can provide the patience and structure he needs to realize his true potential.
