Hopscotch Adoptions

Amelia was born prematurely in March 2012 and, after a few months in the neonatal unit of the hospital, lived with her birth parents until August 2013.  She has been diagnosed with cleft lip and palate (repaired),  optic nerve atrophy  and strabismus, umbilical hernia, cerebral palsy, bronchial asthma, internal non-occlusive hydrocephalus, club feet, microcephalus, increased muscle tone, and significant developmental delays.

Amelia is a positive, calm girl who can turn in both directions and tries to scoot, but cannot yet sit, stand, crawl or walk. She bears weight through her legs when held under the arms. She can be placed in a baby walker, but tires quickly having to keep her body in a vertical position.  Amelia is interested in toys, examines them and tries to grab them.  She sleeps well and eats smooth purees from a spoon.

Amelia is an observant child who is interested in the people and events around her.  She responds to her name, points at things, and tries to carry out simple instructions.  Amelia babbles and her face is expressive, but she does not yet speak.  She recognizes staff members and enjoys being teased by them. She is comfortable having other children in close proximity.

Amelia has been hospitalized several times and, upon return to her orphanage, is usually placed in the admittance sector where opportunities for stimulation and interactions are decreased.  She shows signs of developmental regression after each hospital stay.  Amelia needs a patient, dedicated family that can provide the resources to help her thrive.
