Nels was born in July 2000. He has hypermetropia and asthma for which he uses an inhaler as needed. His development is age-appropriate.

Nels is an energetic, confident, emotionally stable teen with good orientation in and understanding of the world. He is able to make decisions for himself in all areas of life. He is socially intelligent and has creative imagination, good memory, concentration and cognitive abilities. He communicates easily, makes conversation, expresses his thoughts and feelings, initiates contacts with others and forms relationships. Nels attends school and copes well with the academic material, despite being truant sometimes and not doing his homework consistently.

In addition to being a talented and dedicated dancer who dreams of having his own dance studio some day, Nels trains in kick-boxing, likes to read (his favorite author is Stephen King), and enjoys time on the computer and social media.

Our in country representative visited Nels and found him to be a charming, well-behaved and well-spoken teen who has completed 8th grade. He has already set his sights on college and would like to major in English and philology. He can read, write and speak in English already based on what he has learned in school.

Nels has endured many changes in his life, moving between his birth family, orphanages and foster care. Not long ago, Nels lived in a great foster home and regretfully acknowledges that his own bad behavior caused the placement to be disrupted after about three years. He wishes he could go back and change things and continues to be thankful for the opportunities the family gave him, exposing him to classical music, piano and dance lessons, as well as sports. Nels continues to be actively involved with dance and is very interested in choreography.

After the loss of his foster family, Nels personally requested that he be made eligible for international adoption. He knows that he does not have much time to find a forever family. Adoptive parents in the US will have to file their I-800 application prior to Nels' 16th birthday next summer.
