Title: Director of Development

Hours: 30-40 hours per week

Location: Remote position that requires weekly in person meetings in Brevard, NC

Reports To: Executive Director

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Organization:

Creating a Family is the national adoption & foster care education and support nonprofit. Our mission is to strengthen families through unbiased education and support for adoptive, foster, and kinship parents and allied professionals. Creating a Family offers free resources for families before, during, and after adoption or fostering, including a weekly radio show/ podcast, strong social media communities, digital resource library, and vibrant online support group. We also partner with social service professionals in public agencies to help them build stronger relationships with their communities and the families they work with.

Job Description:

The Director of Development assists the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team with planning, execution, and evaluation of development goals for the organization. This includes fund development, grants, marketing, & relationship development with partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Marketing Education & Foster Care Services
  • Online marketing (including Google & social media ads as well as email marketing)
  • Understanding analytics & referral sources
  • Identifying & understanding key markets
  • Selling at conferences/webinars (requires some out of state travel)
  • Development of marketing materials
  • Partnership stewardship/in person visits (requires some out of state travel)
  • Able to attract, influence, engage, and build long-term relationships with allied professionals
  • Find grant opportunities/maintain grant calendar/write grants
  • Maintain contact management system

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Marketing experience
  • Previous grant writing experience
  • Experience with government funding
  • Experience raising funds for a national organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member as well as independently
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, nonprofit management, or related subject desired
  • Minimum of 3 years of development experience preferably in a non-profit environment
  • Computer literate and comfortable with learning new computer software and applications (Must have your own computer set up with up to date technology)
