There is so much misinformation about what to eat and what to avoid when trying to get pregnant, with or without the help of infertility treatment. We wanted to know what nutritional information is supported by strong science. According to Dr. Sheeva Talebian, with Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, these are the top four foods to avoid.
- Artificial Sweeteners and Sugar Substitutes- These fake sugars can be found in a variety of food and beverages marketed as “sugar-free” or “diet. They go by names such as:
- Acesulfame potassium (Sunett, Sweet One)
- Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet)
- Saccharin (SugarTwin, Sweet’N Low)
- Sucralose (Splenda)
- Neotame
- Advantame
- Caffeine– Go easy on the caffeine—no more than one caffeinated beverage a day, but remember that many sodas contain caffeine.
- Fish high in mercury– Fish contain vital nutrients important to women trying to conceive, including omega-3s, protein, vitamins, and minerals such as iron; however, some fish are high in mercury and should be avoided. The fish to avoid include:
- tilefish (from the Gulf of Mexico)
- swordfish
- shark
- king mackerel
- Non-organic meat and dairy products. Doctors recommend that you get plenty of protein when trying to conceive. Dr. Talebian cited some studies that found benefits for women drinking one cup of whole milk each day. While some doctors do not care whether you eat organic or non-organic meat and dairy products, there seems to be a growing concern about antibiotics and growth hormones in non-organic meat and dairy products. When possible try to eat organic meats and milk.

Hi am 20years I did abortion last year but since then have tried to conceive with no gain what should I do
Hi Lorine,
Since we are not medical professionals, we can only highly recommend that you seek the care of your doctor to start investigating your fertility health.
Best Wishes.
Hi I’m paige and I had my misscariage in may at 6 weeks and 3 days at my first ultrasound they couldn’t find my baby’s heartbeat . The next morning I had to go into an emergency d&c but my follow up appointment the dr told me everything looked great I was recovering awesome. It took me and my fiancé a little over a year to get pregnant and we have been trying for another baby ever since June and had no luck any advice ?
Hi Paige, I’m so sorry for your loss. We have lots of resources for women trying to conceive after miscarriage. They can be found here: http://ow.ly/pKNj30feXXM It’s also a good idea to meet with your health care provider to do a full health history and exam to rule out any health issues that might be preventing a pregnancy. Best to you!
i am 20 and me and my husband are trying to have a baby. i had a miscarriage last year with twins. ive been trying since to try again. is there any advise you could give me.
I’m so sorry for your loss. If you aren’t already working with a reproductive specialist, you should consider making an appointment with her to go over your whole health history and your options for building your family. There’s also some good information at this page that could be of some help: https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/tips-tricks-getting-pregnant/
We wish you success!
Am 32 but have been trying for baby but no way, what should I do
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for reading and reaching out. Your first step should be to schedule an appointment with your doctor. Discuss your goals and your health history and seek her recommendations for next steps. This resource might be of help as well: Getting Started with Infertility Treatment. Best wishes to you!

We have lots on info on tips for getting pregnant in our Tips and Tricks for Getting Pregnant page in our A-Z Infertility Resource Guide (https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/).

I think that if you are younger than 35, you should try on your own to get pregnant for about a year. If you aren’t successful, then go to your gynecologist. Don’t spend too much time at the gynecologist. If you are still not pregnant you need to move to an infertility specialist–a reproductive endocrinologist.
I’m sorry for your miscarriage. If you’ve been trying for a year to get pregnant and have not been successful, you need to talk with your gynecologist. We do have tips on getting pregnant at https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/tips-tricks-getting-pregnant/
How can I get pregnant after my tube tied without surgery
Yasheka, I’m not sure you can. And even with surgery to reverse the tubal ligation, it may not be possible to get pregnant without IVF. This is something you need to talk about with a reproductive endocrinologist.
Hi I m saadia I m 31 year old I want to tryong to conceive for last 8 month but not conceived I hv no kid n I get married 8 months before. Is this correct that after 30 to conceiving is difficult I m too much worried of this statement….
Generally doctors tell us that it can take about 12 months to get pregnant at your age. After 12 months, if you are still not pregnant, you need to go to your gynecologist. You do need to make sure that you are having sex during the most fertile times of the month. We have lots of info on how to know the best time to make love at Tips & Tricks for Getting Pregnant.
Hey I been off birth control (depo) for 3 months now me n my fiance been trying to have a baby and nothing happening
Kendra, depending on your age, most docs are not concerned until you’ve been trying for 12 months (if you’ve under 35). You need to listen to this interview we did on How to Get Pregnant When It’s Not Happening Fast. You will learn a lot!
Hey I Got My Inplanon Implant Removed Almost A Month Ago & Me And My Husband Have Been Trying For Baby Number 2 Since Then. The Past Week I’ve Been Having Cramps , One Night It Was Hurt So Bad I Couldn’t Sleep, I’ve Also Gained 7 Pounds And I Pee ALOT And Everyday At 11:30 Am I Wake Up Nauseous And With A Headache I’m Am Now Three Days Late On My Period And Took a Pregnancy Test Yesterday And It Was Negative Is It Too Early To Take A Test?
Try testing again. And in the meantime, assume you are pregnant and don’t drink alcohol and eat healthy.
I was on birth control for 2 years. When I got off. My periods were supper irregular. I discovered 6 years later I had an ovarian cyst that had been there since highchool and they had to Remove it and my right ovary surgically. Now my husband and I are trying to have a baby. We’re not having any luck. My periods are still not regular but they are not nowhere near as bad as they used to be. We want to start a family… but don’t know what to do. Please help me.
Bella, you need to see a specialist to find out why your periods are so irregular. You need to see a reproductive endocrinologist. They often practice at infertility clinics. Make sure they code the reason for the testing they will do as to find the cause for your irregularity, not for treatment of infertility. Your health insurance is more likely to cover the testing if it is unrelated to fertility treatment. Your insurance may or may not cover the fertility treatment if that becomes necessary. It is possible that they can treat the underlying cause, and you may not need fertility treatment.
Hi I been on birth control for about 2 and a half years my husband and I want to have a baby.. but I’m so scare from stories I have heard that from being on birth control is harder to get pragnant:… I’m also scare of giving birth and the whole process do u know if theirs any kind of counseling ….. I want to be able to give my husband a baby but fear don’t let me…
Actually, on a recent Creating a Family show, a reproductive endocrinologist said that birth control pills do not make it more difficult to get pregnant after you get off. It may take a couple of months, however, for your system to get back to normal. Any yes, there is counseling and I strongly suggest that you see a counselor to help you work through your fears.
Hello, my name is Ariel McCarty me & my husband been trying to have a baby for 4 years now, I have irregular periods & bad migraine all the times so as my husband. But every time I go in the hospital they told me that I have to exercise, and I’ve been eating healthy & stay active after I had my baby in 2012. She passed away because the belly cord was wrap around her neck that she cannot breathe, and now we are trying to have another baby. Any advise?
Ariel, I suggest you go to a doctor who specializes in infertility–a reproductive endocrinologist. You need a thorough work up to determine why your periods are irregular and why you have not conceived. If your insurance will not cover this diagnostic workup, go to a gynecologist.
I have been trying for 10years. My menses have been regular until this year that its getting delayed. My last menses in March was delayed by 10days. I did an amh which shows low fertility. Is there anything I can take to improve egg quality. I will appreciate your great insight. Thks

Hello my name is Tammy I’m 26. Five years ago I had a boy. I have never been on any birth control or pills. My husband and I are trying to have another child we tried this pass month and this onemail as well and no luck yet… Is there something different I have to do so when October comes we can try again
Have you been timing your intercourse to coincide with the fertile time of the month? You can get lots of info online about how to determine when you are ovulating. Since you’ve been not using birth control for 5 years and haven’t become pregnant, I think it’s time to go to your gynecologist for help. If that doesn’t work pretty quickly, I’d go straight to a specialist–a reproductive endocrinologist.
Hi I’m Deanna and I’m 22 I have a boyfriend and we have no kids and we want to start a family what should we do…….
Hi I’m Deanna I want to get pregant but the last time that I went to the doctor she told me that I can’t get pregant and she also told me that I have to be off birth control and I also that I can’t take Hormones shots anymore and I don’t have my period so please help me……..
I’m 22
Deanna, I think you should listen to your doctor. Give it a try for about a year following her suggestions, then if you still aren’t pregnant, go see a specialist (a reproductive endocrinologist).
Hi Im 23 i have very irregular periods i am scheduled Wednesday for a pap test and to get on birth control pills but i wanna get pregnant will this help my chances increase
Anna, this is a question to ask your doctor, but clearly getting on birth control pills will not help you get pregnant in the short term. You need her/him to help you understand what is causing your irregular periods.
Can someone help me
Hello! I’ve been trying to get pregnant for a very long time now and I’ve had absolutely no luck. I did have a false positive and when I went to the doctor and he told me I wasn’t pregnant and had not been pregnant it 100% crushed me. I need help. I have longed for a child and I keep having dreams that I’m pregnant or that I have a child and when I wake up and see that it was only a dream it makes me even more depresses than what I already am. I need your advice please. Thank you.
Oh Emily, I’m so sorry you are going through this. Yes, infertility can be very depressing. You need to see a doctor that specializes in infertility to understand why you are not getting pregnant. Reproductive endocrinologists are the specialist and they usually practice at infertility clinics. She/he can devise a treatment plan to help you get pregnant. You didn’t tell us your age, but time is not on your side when trying to get pregnant, so I would suggest seeing a specialist sooner rather than later. We have a great guide to help you choose the best clinic and understand what will happen at the first couple of visits: Choosing a Fertility Clinic or Doctor: A Multimedia Guide For Those Considering Infertility Treatment (https://creatingafamily.org/product-category/e-guides/).
I’m 24 I had an ectopic pregnancy when I was 22 . My husband and I have been trying ever since and no luck.. I need help.
Tiffany, get yourself immediately to a reproductive endocrinologist. Ectopic pregnancies can very easily scar the fallopian tubes or in other ways damage them. Of course, you have two ovaries and two tubes, and presumably only one tube would potentially have been damaged. In any event, this is something that a specialist can easily determine. Talk with them first about ways to get at least some of the diagnosis or treatment covered by your health insurance. Good luck.
Hello I have a nine year old and I was on the Morena but got off a year later. Me and my husband have been trying for two years and nothing. My doctor thought I had pros my obgyn discover that I don’t have it. She put me on bc to regulate my cycle been on it for 8 months. I need help and encouragement.
Denise, if you’ve been trying to get pregnant for 2 years with no success, it is time (high time actually) to see a specialist. You need to make an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist, which usually practice in an infertility clinic. Get our Choosing a Fertility Clinic or Doctor: A Multimedia Guide For Those Considering Infertility Treatment (https://creatingafamily.org/product-category/e-guides/) to help you find one near you.
I’m 36 and irregular been this way since I was 15. I’ve tried birth control to help regulate my cycle but no help. So, I asked my gynecologist if I could possibly have children and he answered it would be hard but possible being that I don’t ovulate like I supposed to. I really want at least one child before I get to old. How can I help the situation progress?
I would go see a reproductive endocrinologist.
Im 43 years old, no longer having a mense. Husband and I both want a child, im diabetic an i am over weight is there any help out there us to become pregnant im dosing to have anouther baby an husband don’t have any children where I have a son from previous. I was pregnant in 2008 but lost that baby haven’t been able to conceive scence. Dr. Did test said im going through menopause im very very upset please tell me there is something out there can help us to become pregnant realy want another baby an husband wants baby also
Jenn, this is a question you need to as an infertility doctor (a reproductive endocrinologist). I would schedule a consultation with an infertility clinic to talk about your options. It may be that your best option will be using donor eggs with your husband’s sperm, but this is a question for an infertility doctor to answer. I wish you the best of luck.
Me and my husband have been trying for 7 years to conceive. Been to the Obgyn to make sure nothing is wrong with me to have a baby. We even had him tested my doctor is going to be testing him again just to make sure she hasn’t missed anything. If they can’t fine anything she wants us to go to a fertility clinic to get help I’m 28 and his is 27
I strongly encourage you to get to an infertility specialist sooner rather than later.
Hello, I’m 26 married have one some age 6. I had the mirania for 5 years got it taken out in December of 2014. My husband and I have been trying for a baby. And no luck. Any suggestions
Yes, get yourself to an infertility doctor. Given your age, you could start with a gynecologist, but if you don’t have success fairly soon, go to a reproductive endocrinologist.
What do i need to do me and my fiance are trying for a baby
I have my periods every month
Hi Sarah, thanks for reading. We have a lot of really helpful resources on our A-Z Resources page – https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/ – to help you figure out what your next steps should be to start your family. Best wishes!
Hello, my husband and I have been trying for 7 years. We have tried IVF and everything. Next year I will be 40 and we still don’t have any kids. We were both tested, I check my ovulation days and everything. The doctor said neither one of us look like anything wrong. Do you have any suggestions? I’ve dieted, I exercise regularly, my husband is very active etc. Any recommendations?
If it were me, I’d get a second opinion with another infertility clinic. Given your age, you might also need to consider using donor eggs. You might also want to consider adoption.
Try Geritol I was told at eighteen without asking I was unable to get pregnant I took the liquid Geritol after losing V and eight years of failure at twenty five I took after each meal says after one within two months I was pregnant have had two miscarriages and four deliveries
Hello,
My wife and I have had difficulty conceiving. In an effort to determine the problem, I had a sperm test done and it showed low motility and morphology. After researching the effects of artificial sweeteners, I believe that may be the culprit. I used to regularly consume sugar-free Red Bull, put Splenda in my coffee, etc. I am no longer consuming any artificial sweeteners. Do you know whether the damage done by artificial sweetener consumption is reversible or not? Have any comparative studies been done? Or have you heard from couples that removed artificial sweeteners from their diet and subsequently got pregnant?
Jon, I haven’t seen studies specific to this, but I had assumed that IF your low sperm motility and morphology was exclusively caused by artificial sweeteners, it should improve. However, the #1 issue with infertility is age and time is not on your side. Don’t spend too much time before you get to a specialist.
Hello my name is Jordan I was just wondering what I could do for my body to get ready for a pregnancy , because me and my boyfriend are wanting to start a family .
There are lots of resources on our site for preparing for pregnancy, but they generally boil down to eating healthy, get plenty of sleep, and exercise. Also, if either of you are overweight, reduce your BMI to a healthy level.
hi am 45 yrs old and I want to get pregnant but my Gyn told me I no longer have any eggs is there still a chance for me?
I suggest listening to your doctor who has seen you in person and knows your medical history.
Marisa as long as you still having your periods and have not reached menopause than I say you still have a chance!!!
Hello. Me and my boyfriend of three year have been trying to have a baby. But last year around this time we was pregnant but then we had a miscarrige. But we been trying every day. How long should we wait until we try again?? How long it take after a miscarriage???
You really need to ask this question to a medical practitioner.
I am going to be 19 in a few months and I recently stop going for my depo shot and me and my boyfriend want a baby how long would I have to wait to get pregnant?
Samantha, that is a question you need to ask your health care provider.
Im almost 22years old. My husband is also almost 22. We are about 6 weeks apart. We have been trying to get pregnant for almost 6months now. I got pregnant by accident year before last. I found out on Dec. 19th. 3 days later on the 21st I miscarried. I never tested positive on any urine tests. Even at the hospital. They tested my blood an thats how I found out. Thats the only time I was pregnant. I only bleed ever 3-8months. Im irregular to say the least. My aunts on my fathers side both had the menstrual issues that regulated themselves between age 20-25. I really want a kid but I dont think I can. Has anyone else expierence this or anything similar? Oh an im not sure if its relevant but my husband’s cum is VERY thick. Like half dried glue? I think that has something to do with it but im not sure. I know its my fault I havent conceived I jus dont know why
Jane, I’m not a doctor, but the general rule of thumb is that before you see a specialist you should try on your own for 12 months. This “trying” should be timed to when you ovulate. The problem for you will be to determine when and if you ovulate. You have to decide whether you want to try to figure out your ovulation on your own for the next 6 months or go to your gynecologist for help. When you go to the doctor, either now or in 6 months, it would make sense to have a semen analysis done on your husband. Good luck.
I know its only been 6 months.. but we do it every day. Theres no way im not pregnant unless its a vaginal/seminal issue.. we even try when I do bleed. Im jus worried that I wont be able to have them. I have large cysts on my ovaries and an acidic uterine environment. When I did get pregnant I thought it was a tubular pregnancy. I cant really afford a gyno. An im almost positive that there are no financial assisted gynos in my area. Im not sure what I should do.
Given that you have cysts on your ovaries and it sounds like you’ve been trying for 3+ years, I would definitely go to a gynecologist now. Is basic gynecological care covered as preventative care under Obama Care? Check with your insurance, but I would approach it as basic care, not as a visit to check for infertility.
Dear Jane,
You may want to get rid of these ovarian cysts first. I encourage you to buy Soursop (Graviola) leafs and drink its tea. You can do your own research but because I am an herbalist I can tell you that Soursop has anti-tumorous properties that helped many cancer patients and women like you to get rid of cysts and tumors. I also drink this tea for a brain tumor and the tumor is shrinking. You need to make this tea in a special way once a day but it is easy to do and divide it in three portions so you going to drink it in the morning, at lunch time and before bed. Please search the internet for this information and you’ll find many testimonies from women who successfully helped themselves with this herbal plant. I wish the best for you.
Just want to mention that you should run any herbs by your doctor first.
Also we never used protection unless its for fun. We’ve been together for almost 3.5 years. You’d think I’d have been prego more than just once. Im jus worried that I cant give the love of my life the child we both want so bad…
I have 3 children (9mo, 2.5yrs,& 5.5yrs) and now I am trying to conceive with an at home insemination kit to carry a baby for my sister. I’m 25 and have been trying since December (3mo) while using an app to track my bbt, cervical fluid, mensuration, etc but I have yet to be successful. Are there any tricks I should be using to increase my chances?
I would check with your gynecologist. You might also need for the father to have a sperm analysis. I would also very strongly urge you to consult with an attorney that specializes in reproductive law to make certain that you and your sister have all the appropriate legal documents to cover this surrogacy arrangement. You also need them to review and make sure your insurance will cover this pregnancy. Creating a Family has resources to help you find a reproductive law attorney.
Okay I am not pregnant or have been but my breasts leak fluid sometimes. What are your thoughts?
This is a question to ask your doctor.
Hi I am about to be 22 and my husband and I have been married for almost 3 years and we have been trying to have a baby and I have always had irregular periods since I first began having them in 8th grade and we have always tried to time it right but it is hard to do when one month I start my cycle at the begening of the month then the next month in the middle or at the 32nd of the month. It had always been like that and we have been trying for two years and I am already taking parental vitamans. But the thing is my husband has sickle cell and I have just have low iron amines, low thyroid issues.
Jessie, you need to see a specialist. I would recommend going to an infertility clinic for a workup and diagnosis.
Im 20 yrs old and married i have been trying to get prego for 3 yrs now i had a surgery for and ovarian cyst when i was 16 doctor told my mom it was going to be hard for me to have a baby i want to know if there is women out there that had the same problem and have a baby already i tried loosing weight i tried eating healthy taking vitamins (PLEASE ADVISED) thanks ??
I think you need to see a specialist who can help decide why you are not getting pregnant. It is possible that it is PCOS, but it could be other reasons as well.
Okay so about 4 weeks ago i was havin left and right pelvic pain on and off for 2 weeks and a couple of days and 2weeks ago i was getting tender breast and tgey were very full and feel heavy for like a whole week i was even feeling alot o headaches alot of pregnancy symptoms but last night i got mi period right after having intercourse. me and my partner been traying for like 4 months what should i do?
The general advice is to not worry until yo have been trying for 12 months if you are under 35 or 6 months if you are older than 35. You need to learn your cycle and be able to tell when you are ovulating so that you can time intercourse to coincide with your most fertile time in your cycle.
I’m getting ready to be forty in about 2weeks. Me and my husband has been trying for over 6yrs to conceive, but everytime we think its pregnancy I’m told by doctors that I have uterus fibroids! Now I’m facing my second myomectomy to remove the fibroids! This causes me to go into a deep depression!
I am so sorry you are going through this! I would strongly recommend going to an infertility clinic to get a diagnosis.
Go to a doctor or u can or u could have had a mid carriage
Hi, My husband and I have been trying for almost a year to have a baby and I just can’t seem to get pregnant. I bought an OPK and we had timed sex, but nothing. He had a child with another woman and so I know its me and not him. I am almost 19. What should I do?
Brittany, I’m not a doctor, but the general recommendation at your age is to try with timed intercourse one full year, then get yourself to a doctor that specializes in infertility–a reproductive endocrinologist. Good luck!
You are19 maybe wait. Enjoy your innocent years try at 24 way better. Go travel work hard save your money and finish college kids are so expensive.
Hi 35 and i have 1 baby and she is one now and i have regular period and also breast feeding h trying to get pregnant again but no luck:( what should I do?
Tia
I am not a doctor, but breastfeeding makes it harder to get pregnant.
Hello I am 20 years old. When I was 15 I had an abortion. my periods are all over the place and its starting to upset me a lot because I just don’t know much about the whole ovulation. Ive been much happier and less stressed so mine and my partners goal is trying to get pregnant. I tried the walmart ovulation tests I try being healthy my partner quit smoking a few weeks ago for good. I was showing so many signs of pregnancy. I even spotted a light pinkish light brown color for two days and the cramps came and gone those past two days as well. I took two home test and they both said negative so now I’m just concerned. Whats going on? How can we make this work to get pregnant? How to track such a messed up period. I just dont really know what to do.
Amanda, this is a good question for your gynecologist. If you have a very irregular period, your doctor needs to try to figure out the underlying cause. It’s a great idea to quit smoking and start living a healthy lifestyle at any time, but especially when you are trying to get pregnant, but it sounds like you need to understand why your periods are irregular.
Hi I’m 25 years old I had a abortion when I was 15 my moms choice and since I’ve had 3 serious relationship meaning I was having unprotected sex with my mates at the time never got pregnant they all have other children with other women but it me that just can’t get pregnant I want a baby so bad with my current boy friend we been trying for 3 years now and still nothing any suggestions I’ve did ovulation tests vitamins also everything you can think of I was just suggested to drink baby aspirin and folic acid once a day please help!?
Also he wants to get married and I told him I do to but deep inside if I can’t provide children for him than I don’t ever want to get married
Make an appointment as soon as possible with a reproductive endocrinologist, which is an infertility doctor. We have resources on how to find an infertility clinic at https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/finding-infertility-doctor-clinic/.
Hi I recently got married to my wonderful husband and we have now been trying to conceive. For over a year now and I still can’t get pregnant. I eat the right nutrition I need I drink my water my vitimams and I don’t drink or smoke.but since my last miscarriage from my past I haven’t been able to concieve what can I do or what would it be ? How do I know when the best time is to try on my monthly freind
unknown, your first step is to google “ovulation basal body temperature and cervical mucus” and read up on how to determine the most fertile times of the month. You can also buy ovulation predictor tests at any drug store or WalMart or Target. You didn’t mention you age, but the rule of thumb is that if you are under the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for one year without success (pregnancy) you need to see a specialist–a reproductive endocrinologist. If you are over 35, see an infertility doctor after 6 months.
Hi, so my bf and I had a miscarriage last year in October, we are going to start trying for a baby this month, I had my last period on 9/20 that lasted 3 days. Every month is usually the same, what would my most fertile day this month be?
You have several options for determining when you ovulate and your most fertile days. You can go the low tech route and chart your basal body temperature and your cervical mucus. You might also use an over-the-counter ovulation predictor kit (OPK) to check for hormonal changes in your urine before ovulation. There are several apps available that can also help. Good luck.
I am almost 37 years old. I had a daughter when I was 18, she is now 18. I recently got married and my husband and I are trying to conceive. I had right ovarian cysts/endometriosis cysts removed with a tubal/reproductive and a tubal cannulation which showed everything was good and clear. We tried at the end of July and August and I got my period in both August and September so no pregnancy. We have been using an app to monitor my ovulation and I have been entering my period in it the last year so I think it’s pretty accurate. We really really tried this last week during my fertile days/ovulation. If I am not pregnant this month, which I pray I am, do you suggest a fertility specialist? A friend of mine gave me the name of on in case I just hope I don’t have to use it. I am going on 37 so time is not on my side. And who knows maybe his sperm count is low, i don’t know. Anyway should I be discouraged so soon? Seemed like when I was 18 and not trying to get pregnant it happened so quick :-/
Noelle, I’m glad you realize that time is not on your side when it comes to having a baby. And yes, it is too bad that we are at our most fertile when we are least ready to be a parent. The “rule of thumb” is that younger women should try to conceive for a year without success before they start seeking treatment and that “older” women should try for 6 months. There is no hard and fast rule about at what age the advice shifts from 6 to 12 months, but generally we hear around age 35. I’m not a doctor, so this is a good question to ask your gynecologist, but if it were me, I’d do exactly what you are doing (timed intercourse) for 6 months and then go see the specialist.
Wow our story is so much alike,I’m 38 and going to be 39 next month” word for word our story matches “keep at it”
Hi. I’ll be 39 very soon. I’m healthy with no known fertility issues. My partner and I had intercourse Sept. 18. Most ovulation calculators I found online predict me to ovulate on September 20. What do you think my chance is of conceiving this month? Due to our schedules we be together again for another few days. Should I be hopeful?
Fingers crossed Sannie. I hope “it” worked!
Ih i have a 16 years old boy im 32 years old after my son i never get pregnant .
Marie, I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. Secondary infertility is more common than many people realize. You need to get yourself to an infertility specialist–a reproductive endocrinologist–for evaluation. The initial testing may well be covered by your insurance, but make sure you talk with their financial department first.
Hi I’m 26 year olds the begging of the year I lost a baby me and my husband are trying to get pregnant again but we haven’t got luck would something wrong well be happening or is it to soon
Liliana, generally speaking at your age, you should try timed intercourse (sex during the time you are ovulating) for one year. If you are not successful, first go to your gynecologist for a short while. If you still are pregnant with the treatment your gynecologist can give, go to an infertility clinic. Good luck!
Hello im 22 and on 2010 went on the BC shot but got pregnant anyway and had an ectopic pregnancy in June 2010. I got pregnant again in Jan 2012 and had a full term pregnancy and my baby is now going on 3yrs. But weve been trying to get pregnant for the past 2 yrs and we dont have any luck. Any adivce? I do have only one fallopian tube (left one) bcuz of the ectopic pregnancy. What can we/i do.
Have you been making sure that you have try timed intercourse (sex during the time you are ovulating). If so, then after 2 years of trying you should go to a fertility specialist. Given your age, you can first go to your gynecologist for a short while. If you still are pregnant with the treatment your gynecologist can give, go to an infertility clinic. Good luck!
I was diagnosed with Pcos 2 years ago and I got pregnant a year ago which was a tubical pregnancy is it possible for me to ever get pregnant and it not be tubical
This is a question only your gynecologist can answer.
I’m 27 and been off depo for 1 years and 1 months now me and my boyfriend been trying for 7 months we both have kids and I’m having second during my ovalution period what should I do
Brittney, the “rule of thumb” is at age 27 you should try having timed intercourse (during the time you ovulate) for one year before seeing a specialist. If you have not had success in 5 months, I would suggest you go to a fertility clinic. Going to a fertility clinic does not mean that they will automatically suggest IVF.

Veronica, you need to go to a specialist in endocrinology and since you are trying to get pregnant that needs to be a reproductive endocrinologist. You will find these doctors mainly at infertility clinics. “Please. Help me. Thank you.
Tiffany, if you have been trying for one year with no success, and you are certain that you are having sex at the right time of the month, then you need to see an infertility doctor–a reproductive endocrinologist. https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/finding-infertility-doctor-clinic/
Iam 26years old. Iam having sex from 3 years but i couldnot get pregnent. What should we do for get pregnent?
Anjel, you need to make sure that you are having sex during the fertile time in your menstrual cycle. If you have been doing this, you need to go see an infertility doctor. Here is how to find one: https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/finding-infertility-doctor-clinic/
Me and my boyfriend have been having sex for two years we got pregnant once but I miss carried and now ever since then it’s impossible to have a kid I’ve tried everything and I don’t know what to do
Michelle, if you’ve been having timed intercourse (sex during the time of the month when you ovulate) for 2 years with only one pregnancy which ended in miscarriage, you need to go to a fertility doctor (reproductive endocrinologist) to see what is wrong. Creating a Family has resources on how to find an infertility clinic/doctor. https://creatingafamily.org/infertility/resources/finding-infertility-doctor-clinic/
I am 22 with no kids what all should I do so I can start my family me and my partner have sex 2x a day am I doing some thing wrong is there some thing I should eat and stay away from
Jasmin, we are not medical doctors, but you want to make sure that you time sex to coincide with your most fertile times. There are apps to help track when you ovulate or you can buy ovulation predictor kits. If you are having intercourse every day during your cycle that should cover it if you ovulate. The rule of thumb is that you should try on your own with timed intercourse for one year if you are under 35, and if you are not pregnant, then consult an infertility doctor. If you are worried before then, consult with your gynecologist.
I’ve been having sex with my husband and we don’t ever use a condom, i don’t see why i haven’t gotten prego yet. And we try usally before and after my period to sleep together and see if i get prego , because that’s what I’ve been told ur best chances to get pregnant are before or after my period. And my husband had already a 10 year old girl chloe with a different way before we gotten together. So i know he don’t have a problem having kids.
Adelina, it is important that you figure out when you ovulate and make certain you are having sex during this time. Google basal body temperature or cervical mucus to learn more about how to find your ovulation window. You can also buy ovulation predictor kits at any drug store or online.
