A mother considers her son’s final thoughts and a type of suicide we don’t fully understand.
I have long loved Melissa Fay Greene’s writing. I devoured two of her many books There is No Me Without You and Wear a Helmet When You Ride Your Bike in the House and was fortunate to have interviewed her twice on the Creating a Family Radio Show/Podcast here and here.
When I heard her beautiful son, adopted from Ethiopia at age 10, had committed suicide I felt an almost physical pain, even though I had never met this young man. My heart broke for his family, especially his mother.
She wrote this beautiful article for The Cut that enlightened me on suicide, which seems particularly relevant to me in light of recent high profile celebrity deaths.
Please read this and pass it on to other parents. Who knows who it might help.
