Simone Biles Addresses Trautwig’s Comment on Her Parents

simone biles answers Al Trautwig

Simone Biles shut down the controversy created by NBC gymnastics commentator Al Trautwig when he said on-air that Biles “was raised by her grandfather and his wife and she calls them mom and dad.” In fact, Ron and Nellie Biles, adopted her and her younger sister sister 15 years ago. (See my blog about Simone’s adoption from foster care for the full story.)

Not being one to leave bad enough alone, Trautwig stuck his foot further in his mouth by tweeting later that day: “They may be mom and dad but they are NOT her parents.”

Biles had one comment and one comment only: “My parents are my parents and that’s it.”

Compact, concise, and accurate–just like her gold winning gymnastics. Thank you Simone!
