Racial Discrimination in International Adoption

Q: I am African American, single and would like to adopt from Bulgaria. Are African Americans successful adopting from Bulgaria? I’ve checked with several agencies, and no one seems to be able to give a direct answer or advice.

A: Check with agencies with an active Bulgaria program. I would think that there would be no problem unless it is a judge driven adoption process (where the judges have a lot of discretion) and you happened upon a judge who has a personal problem. This seems unlikely.  Agencies with an active program should be able to answer this question for you. Good luck!
