Emotional Abuse As Damaging as Physical Abuse

A new report published in JAMA Psychiatry suggest that physical and emotional abuse can be equally damaging to children. The study, lead by David Vachon of McGill University in Montreal, found that abused children showed similar behavioral issues, regardless of the type of abuse they suffered. It’s important that adoptive parents, especially through foster care, remember that emotional abuse and neglect can have as serious an impact an a child as physical abuse.
