Haiti – Suspension of Adoptions Visa Processing

Haiti - Suspension of Adoptions Visa ProcessingIn response to the political unrest and recently-ordered evacuation of embassy personnel from the country of Haiti, the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs has released this notice regarding Haiti’s international adoption program, on their Intercountry Adoption News and Notices site:

Effective February 14, 2019, Embassy Port-au-Prince will stop visa processing for adoption cases, due to the ordered departure of non-emergency Embassy personnel and the ordered departure of their family members. Please review the February 14th Haiti Travel Advisory for additional information on current security concerns in Haiti. Prospective adoptive parents should not travel to Haiti for visa interviews or socialization visits until further notice.

Should adoption service providers or adoptive families have any questions or concerns, please email the Office of Children’s Issues at adoption@state.gov or U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince at papadoptions@state.gov. We will circulate an updated notice once the authorized departure is lifted and Embassy Port-au-Prince resumes adoptions visa processing.

If you suspect your adoption process might be affected by this suspension, seek your adoption agency’s advice immediately. Creating a Family extends its sympathies to those caught in the difficulty.
