Questions to ask Adoption Agency References

 

  1. Did you adopt domestically or internationally?
  2. If you adopted internationally, what country did you adopt from?
  3. When was your adoption completed?
  4. Who at the adoption agency did you most closely work with?
  5. What risk factors, race, special needs, or health status were you open to?
  6. How closely did the child you were referred match what you were seeking or the expectant mother match the risk factors you were open to?
  7. How close were the cost and time estimates that the agency gave you?
  8. Were there any hidden charges?
  9. What was the total cost of your adoption?
  10. Was the agency up front about all possible medical or legal issues?  Did they help you get additional information?
  11. Did you have any problems with the agency?  If so, how were they resolved?
  12. Did the agency seem impatient with your questions or anxiety?
  13. How promptly did they return phone calls/emails/texts and send requested material?
  14. Was the agency helpful when you were traveling either to adopt from another state or country?
  15. Would you use this agency again?
  16. Can you give me the names of others who used this agency?
