Q: I am 32 and live in the UK. I am interested in adoption. I have learning difficulties and I am a lesbian, but still what to adopt. How do I go about it?
A: I am not an expert on adoptions in the UK, but we have many resources on all types of adoption, and much of the information would be relevant. We have also had some radio shows specific to the LGBT adoption that you might find useful, like Adoption Options and the LGBT Community.
Learning disabilities are not necessarily an impediment to adoption unless they would impact your ability to parent. In the US, all prospective adoptive parents have a homestudy prepared that serves to educate them on adoption and to assess their ability to be an adoptive parent.
